In accordance with the GPCPB Constitution, the Provincial Commissioner is a Principal Member of the Board. As the lead accounting officer for SAPS in Gauteng, Lieutenant General Mthombeni provides the overarching strategic mandate for community policing and ensures that Board decisions are operationalized within the Service.

  • Operational Briefings — Facilitating briefings to align station and district commanders with community-based crime prevention strategies in partnership with the CPF.

Constitutional & Legislative Basis

The inclusion of senior SAPS officers as principal and ex-officio Board members is established in the GPCPB Constitution and is consistent with the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act 68 of 1995) and the framework for Community Police Forums and Boards as defined under Section 19 of the Act. This structure ensures that community policing decisions carry full institutional endorsement and can be actioned through official SAPS channels.
